STEP Tools Translator in CADKEY 98

Troy, New York, May 24, 1999 - A STEP translator built using STEP Tools software is included in CADKEY 98. Baystate Technologies licensed the ACIS translation libraries from STEP Tools, Inc. in the fall of 1997. In 1998, they used these libraries to build translators for the AP-203 (Configuration Controlled Design) and AP-214 (Automotive Design) data exchange standards. In December of 1998, this translator was released to the CADKEY customer base of 250,000 users as part of CADKEY 98.

The translator library is a set of function calls for translating STEP geometry to ACIS geometry and vice versa. The product has been on the market since 1995 and is included in the STEP translators of Hitachi Zosen Grade/Cube II, Visionary Design Systems IRONCAD, Newport News Vivid and numerous private systems. Blair Downie, Vice President for Product Development at STEP Tools, Inc., commented that the "inclusion of a STEP Tools translator in CADKEY 98 nearly doubles the number of CAD seats that include STEP Tools software libraries".
