Introduction

ISO 10303 is an International Standard for the computer-interpretable representation of product information and for the exchange of product data. The objective is to provide a neutral mechanism capable of describing products throughout their life cycle. This mechanism is suitable not only for neutral file exchange, but also as a basis for implementing and sharing product databases, and as a basis for retention and archiving.

Major subdivisions of this document are:

This document specifies an application resource for the representation of mechanical design concepts required for industrial usage and also ASME Y14.5-2009 [2]. This document supports digital representation for computer integrated manufacturing.

This document extends presentation data found in the resource parts ISO 10303-46 and ISO 10303-101.

The counterbore_countersink_schema provides resources for the representations of parametric data sets used to specify properties for counterbore, countersink, counterdrill, and spotface elements. It provides specific support for instantiating the parametric data as content in a piece part definition or as content in an assembly definition.

The machining_feature_schema provides resources to identify the specific characteristics of part shape used in manufacturing. These characteristics are used to define manufacturing features. These shapes can be represented either by machining features defined in this schema, or by a boundary representation solid model, shared by other application protocols and used as application interpreted constructs in application protocols.

The mechanical_design_schema provides resources for the representations of slots or placeholders in a geometric model that will be elaborated in a further operation. It provides specific support to identify the geometric product specification element the placeholder is intended to support. It provides specific support for managing identification properties of topological items by providing population constraints on the values of an identification element in the context of a product definition.

The relationships of the schemas in this document to other schemas that define the integrated resources of ISO 10303 are illustrated in Figure 1 using the EXPRESS-G notation. EXPRESS-G is defined in ISO 10303-11.

The schemas illustrated in Figure 1 are components of the integrated resources.
