Price/Performing ST-Viewer Released by STEP Tools, Inc. New STEP Viewer interacts with CAD systems, part libraries and databases as a World Wide Web browser "plug in"

Troy, New York-September 1, 1999- STEP Tools, Inc., the forerunner in developing STEP-integration software toolsets for the global marketplace, announced it has released ST-Viewer for Windows( NT 9/x platforms at low cost introductory prices. ST-Viewer is an inexpensive tool for sharing STEP-based 3D product data throughout a business enterprise or via the World Wide Web. This interactive application communicates with CAD/CAM/CAE and PDM systems, part libraries and databases as a World Wide Web browser "plug in". ST-Viewer is a key element in the evolution of Internet Manufacturing and implements the ISO STEP standard for product model data. The Viewer works seamlessly with ST-Repository, a new Internet compatible database management system developed by STEP Tools for STEP data. The viewer can be ordered on-line from the STEP Tools web site at http://www.steptools.com/products/stviewer.

ST-Viewer Puts STEP Data Online vs. "On Paper"

Ideal for the machine shop floor or the engineering desktop, ST-Viewer displays product identification information, assembly structures, 3D geometry, and allows CAD users to make annotations on this information and share it with other users. This price-performing tool has been tested with STEP files for configuration controlled assemblies, manufacturing features, computer-aided analysis and automotive design. The viewer creates 3D model visualizations in the Open Inventor file format which can be positioned, rotated, colored, annotated and illuminated for optimal presentation. The images produced by ST-Viewer can be translated into the VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) and incorporated into technical presentations on Web sites. ST-Viewer visualizations of 3D solids and wireframe models can also be cut and paste into other business software applications, such as word processors, etc.

ST-Viewer features an OLE/COM interface that can be used to customize and implement extensions or additional features to its basic functionality. Customers who want to create extensions will need to purchase ST-Visualizer. Once implemented, the extensions can be applied to any ST-Viewer installation.

The design of the ST-Viewer leverages ten years of work by more than 500 CAD experts to create a robust open format for CAD, CAM and CAE data. With the STEP viewer, users can ensure their CAD data conforms to the international ISO standard for product data for compliance with customers and suppliers in the United States, Europe and the Far East... now and in the future.

Compatible With Many CAD, CAM, CAE and PDM Systems

The ST-Viewer is compatible with a very large range of CAD, CAM, CAE and PDM systems. The STEP interface of these systems are built and maintained by their vendors and monitored for conformance to the standard by national industry groups and the International Standards Organization. STEP Tools web site also contains a free translation service that can be used to translate other CAD part file formats to a STEP file.
