Troy, New York-June 23, 1999 STEP Tools, Inc., the forerunner in developing STEP-integration software toolsets for the global marketplace, is now shipping Version 3.0 of ST-Visualizer( viewer for Windows( NT 9/x platforms. This interactive 3D visualization tool is used to display wireframe and solid model geometry in STEP (Standard for Product Data Exchange) part files. ST-Visualizer is ideal for software developers in the CAD/CAM/CAE industry or for companies developing their own vertical design/manufacturing applications. The all-new ST-Visualizer offers many features including support for assemblies and AP-214 (STEP- Version 2) application protocols, automatic shading of 3D components, across-the-board performance increases, and COM (Component Object Model) Interfaces for automation, an industry standard for Windows applications.

Hot-Off-The-Press Features Enhance the Visualization of STEP Models

With over one million end-users of STEP translators and the STEP file format, ST-Visualizer can help software developers and manufacturing companies leverage this internationally popular data standard representing 3D design content worldwide. With the newly added automation capabilities, ST-Visualizer will allow outside applications to interact with the program and have it perform tasks like loading a file or manipulating an object by changing the camera position. ST-Visualizer has the ability to communicate bi-directionally with an outside application and reports whenever the user displays, hides, or changes the object selection within ST-Visualizer.

Used in conjunction with ST-Repository (STEP Tools' Database Management Toolset), ST-Visualizer can be utilized for on-demand viewing and sharing of 3D STEP models on the Internet or within the enterprise workflow process ¾ from desktop business applications to product development to design collaboration.

The ST-Visualizer product is only one of STEP Tools' integrated suite of tools and libraries that cover every aspect of STEP implementation, and drastically minimize the effort needed to move applications and databases into compliance with ISO 10303 STEP and other standards that use EXPRESS information models.

New Assembly Support , Display and Export Options

ST-Visualizer now supports simple and complex assemblies and AP-214 application protocols. Both the product structure, as well as the assembly itself, can be viewed at any level of the assembly tree. Users will also notice improved performance and faster image generation resulting in a smoother, higher quality 3D model. Another ST-Visualizer enhancement includes automatic, multi-color shading when loading new STEP geometry with multiple components. In addition, users can customize the colors of each component and the background color as well.

Users can click on solid faces or components of STEP models and get a detailed view of the product structure and a tree illustrating the relationship between products, product versions and definitions, as well as information associated with the original STEP file. The model can also be panned, zoomed or rotated for visual verification. The same model can also be viewed in multiple windows from different perspectives. STEP model data can also be saved as VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) files for use with Internet applications.
